Started Gas Welding

Gas welding is welding using a fire torch. The Gasses that we use in this type of welding is Acetylene gas and oxygen gas. Oxygen helps to somewhat make the fire produced adjustable.

For example increasing the oxygen will makes the fire turn bright blue, which  we are using during this gas welding operation.

The housing for both gas tanks are store separately in a dry temperate place away from where we work in outside the workshop. The gas travels in pipelines overhead to where we work.

At the moment in the workshop, we are told to make three straight lines on a thin metal plate and care is needed not to make a hole through the metal.

There are steps in starting the torch:

1) Turn on both valve feed anticlockwise.
2) Adjust the pressure meter of both gasses (just a little amount is enough)
3) Turn the acetylene valve on the torch anticlockwise slightly.
4) Use spark igniter to light the gas and an orange yellow flame is formed. In this step it is necessary to increase the amount of acetylene coming out of the torch until there is no more black smoke particles produced.
5) Open the oxygen gas valve on the torch slowly to produce a blue flame. Adjust if necessary.

Then operate it with care to start welding on a metal piece.
