Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) holiday assignment

So far we have been given three report writing assignment for our one month school break, that is for MIB, IT and now IGT and the IGT assignment goes like this:

Write a report by referring to the questions given below:

1.      Explain with diagrams, the functions of the following gas turbines sections:

A.    Inlet section

B.     Compressor

C.     Combustion system / chamber

D.    Turbine

E.     Exhaust system and Exhaust diffuser

2.      Identify with diagram, the location and state the function for each of the turbine section part which includes; fuel nozzles, flame detection equipment, spark plugs, transition pieces, combustion liners and crossfire tubes.

3.      Describe briefly the following with respect to gas turbine maintenance.

A.    The three types of turbine inspections.

B.     The procedures of carrying out Hot Gas Path Inspection and what are the things to be inspected

C.     Using Bore scope for gas turbine inspection, include diagram(s) and labels.

4.      Explain the following gas turbine fuel classifications.

A.    Gas Fuel: Natural gas, high calorific value gas, medium calorific value gas, and low calorific value gas.

B.     Liquid Fuel: True distillate fuel, oil and bio-liquid fuels.

As usual like any report, this report requires a proper report layout, contents, table of content page, introduction, cover page (provided), conclusions if any and a proper referencing. By doing this properly will be given 10 marks as a reward.

This assignment mark weighs 100% and will help in our exam score mark as well.

So far from now, I’ve only started introduction and done question 1.
